On 6th July 2021 the World Broadband Association (WBBA) came together in a virtual kick-off event to officially launch the association.

Over 30 attendees joined to hear the Welcome Address from Richard Mahony (Vice President Market Lead – Service Provider, Informa Tech).

During his address, Richard made clear that not only has the pandemic proven that broadband is critical to how we live our lives, but that it is also a growth market – Omdia forecasts that the fixed broadband market will grow by 14% globally over the next 5 years.

However, the industry “share of voice” does not reflect the role of broadband in driving and enabling a better-connected world, which is why the collective voice of the WBBA is so timely and important.

With Michael Philpott (Research Director – Service Provider Consumer, Informa Tech) moderating, WBBA members then came together to share experiences and debate industry issues including:

How to build the FTTP business case – identifying operator benefits and showing the power of broadband to enable government investment
Where are the greatest opportunities for broadband to drive vertical industry innovation, and what are the technology developments required to enable such innovation?
Before the member networking, Mark Oliver (Senior Director Consulting and Custom Solutions – Service Provider, Informa Tech) outlined the upcoming market survey and thought-leadership content programme that WBBA members will get exclusive access into directing and shaping, allowing them to inform the first opportunity for the WBBA to claim a position in the market.
