UBBF 2024: Forging the Future of Ultra-Broadband with AI and Advanced Networks

Turkcell
In an era where digital connectivity drives economies, reshapes industries, and transforms communities, staying ahead in ultra-broadband technology has never been more critical. The Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2024, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, was no ordinary gathering—it was a meeting of the world’s top innovators and visionaries, all focused on unlocking the full potential of ultra-broadband (UBB) through advanced AI and next-generation networks.

The Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) is more than just an annual conference; it’s where the brightest minds and most innovative leaders in ultra-broadband (UBB) gather to shape the future of connectivity. This year, from October 31 to November 1, Istanbul, Türkiye, served as the dynamic setting for UBBF 2024, themed “All Intelligence with UBB Advanced.” The forum explored how AI and next-generation networks can revolutionize the way we connect, bridging gaps, driving growth, and building resilient digital infrastructure for the future.

This year, UBBF delivered a powerful message: AI is no longer just a tool; it’s the catalyst for a transformative era in ultra-broadband. Attendees from across the globe came together to exchange insights, showcase cutting-edge advancements, and explore strategies to bridge the digital divide, elevate network quality, and foster industry-wide cooperation. Here’s an inside look at some of the most exciting discussions and groundbreaking initiatives that emerged from UBBF 2024.

Powering Türkiye’s Digital Future: A Meeting of Minds

One of the most inspiring dialogues at UBBF 2024 was between Martin Creaner, Director General of the World Broadband Association (WBBA), and Prof. Dr. Vehbi Çağrı Güngör, Turkcell’s Chief Technology Officer. With Turkcell as a new member of the WBBA, the forum was an ideal stage for them to unveil an ambitious vision for Türkiye’s digital future—the “Fiber Road” strategy.

Turkcell’s Fiber Road initiative aims to create a robust, high-speed infrastructure network across Türkiye, a foundation that will enable unparalleled digital transformation and connectivity. Prof. Dr. Güngör highlighted the critical role of fiber in unlocking high-speed internet nationwide, aligning with Türkiye’s broader digital goals. “This is about more than just connectivity,” he shared. “It’s about empowering every sector in the nation to thrive in a digital world.”

Martin Creaner echoed this sentiment, spotlighting the promising revenue growth in the Fixed Broadband (FBB) sector through value-added services. However, he issued a cautionary note: without intentional effort, the digital divide could widen by 2028. “The future isn’t evenly distributed yet,” he warned. The WBBA’s vision is to close this gap by pushing for broadband excellence in developed regions and expanding accessibility in underserved areas.

Turkcell’s role in this transformation is significant. As a digital operator headquartered in Türkiye, Turkcell has been a trailblazer, offering a unique portfolio of digital services and pioneering LTE-Advanced and carrier aggregation technologies in its 81-city LTE launch. With fiber internet speeds reaching up to 10 Gbps, Turkcell is setting a new standard for what’s possible in the digital age.

An Industry United: Answering the Call for a Thriving Broadband Future

UBBF 2024 underscored a clear message: collaboration is the bedrock of ultra-broadband’s future. As global demand for high-quality broadband soars, the industry faces both challenges and enormous opportunities. Leaders, governments, and technology pioneers alike are called to join forces with organizations like the WBBA to pool resources, accelerate innovation, and share knowledge worldwide.

The World Broadband Association along with visionary players like Turkcell, is paving the way for a connected future. These partnerships remind us that a resilient, thriving ultra-broadband industry is within reach if we act together. Through collaboration, collective learning, and bold strategies, the industry can continue to meet the demands of the future, driving prosperity and resilience for generations to come.
